An herbal infusion is a plant extract made by pouring hot water onto herbaceous plant matter, such as flowers and leaves, and allowing it to steep before consuming it while still hot or after it has cooled down. It is similar to an herbal tea but typically uses a higher concentration of plant matter and is steeped longer. It is also similar to a decoction but the water is not continually being heated during the extraction.

Making an herbal infusion

Use 1 tsp of dried herbs or 2 tsp of fresh herbs to a cup of water.

Infusion steps:

  1. Place herbs in a strainer or tea infuser, place it in the cup. Fill the cup with boiled water.
  2. Cover the cup and infuse between 5 to 10 minutes before removing the herbs.
