Tragopogon dubius (common name: yellow salsify)
Propagation: Seed - sow spring in situ. Make sure to water the seed in if the weather is dry.
Cultivation: Succeeds in ordinary garden soils, including heavy clays[1].
Range: Europe to W. Asia - Austria and N. France eastwards.
Habitat: Fields in Turkey, 400 - 1840 metres[2].
Edibility: Root - raw or cooked[3][4]. Fleshy[5].
Young stems, when 5 - 10cm high, and the bases of the lower leaves - raw or cooked. Used as a potherb[4].

Soil: Can grow in light, medium, and heavy soils.
Drainage: Prefers well drained soil.
Flower Type: Hermaphrodite
Heavy Clay: Grows in heavy-clay soils.
