Selenium

Selenium (abbreviated as Se) is an element. For many organisms it is an essential nutrient, but can be toxic in high amounts.

Some soil can have high levels of selenium which can be detected by indicator plants such as Stanleya pinnata. Other plants can bioaccumulate the element and become fatal to livestock who forge on the plants, such as Astragalus henryi.
