Cultivation: This species has mistakenly been treated in various floras as Physaliastrum japonicum (Franchet & Savatier)
Honda, which is a different species found only in Japan[1].
Range: E. Asia - China, Japan, Korea and Russia.
Habitat: Grassy slopes and forests at low elevations[1].
Edibility: Fruit[2][3]. The fruit, which is enveloped in its calyx, is about 10mm in diameter[1].
Soil: Can grow in light, medium, and heavy soils.
Seed Ripens: Mid Summer-Early Fall
Flower Type: Hermaphrodite
