Beta lomatogona
Propagation: Seed - sow spring in a cold frame. Germination usually takes place within 2 - 3 weeks at 15°c. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out into their permanent positions in the summer.
If you have sufficient seed, it can be sown outdoors in situ in mid to late spring.
Cultivation: We have very little information on this species and do not know if it will be hardy in Britain, though judging by its native range it could succeed outdoors in many parts of this country. The following notes are based on the general needs of the genus.
Succeeds in most soils but prefers a light neutral to alkaline soil.
Range: Western Asia and the Caucasus.
Habitat: Sunny slopes[1].
Edibility: Root- cooked[1]. The root is quite woody but it contains up to 30% sugar[1].
Pollinators: Wind
Soil: Can grow in light, medium, and heavy soils.
Drainage: Prefers well drained soil.
Flower Type: Hermaphrodite
