Beilschmiedia tawa (common name: tawa)

Range: New Zealand.
Habitat: Shady moist forests in lowland and lower montane areas on North and South Islands, south to 42° S[1].
Edibility: Fruit - raw or cooked[2][3][4][5]. A sweet taste when it is fully ripe[6].
Seed - cooked[5]. It is usually steamed and then dried, when it will store in good condition for several years[6].
Soil: Can grow in light, medium, and heavy soils.
Flower Type: Hermaphrodite
