Gerbera lanuginosa

Propagation: Seed - sow spring in a greenhouse. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and grow them on in the greenhouse for at least their first winter. Plant them out into their permanent positions in late spring or early summer, after the last expected frosts.

Division in spring.

Cultivation: We have virtually no information on this species and do not know if it will be hardy in this country. Other members of the genus require a fertile well-drained soil and a sunny sheltered position[1].

Members of this genus are rarely if ever troubled by browsing deer[1].

Range: E. Asia - Himalayas.

Habitat: Almost always found on cliffs in shady places to 2400 metres in Uttar Pradesh[2].

Usage: A 'cotton' from the leaves is used as a tinder and occasionally made into coarse cloth or bags[2].

Pollinators: Insects

Soil: Can grow in light, medium, and heavy soils.

Flower Type: Hermaphrodite
